The backstory – The leading edge of technology
20 years ago I was working at a Colorado Mountain College in Vail, Colorado teaching adult learners and professionals how to use personal computers and digital cameras. Although this does not seem like such a big deal, it was. This was the early days of the web as we know it and the resistance of the community was real.
Since then I have trained thousands of professionals in the medical, legal, travel, real estate, and education fields as well as children ages 5-18. Currently, I am teaching people about social selling strategies, getting leads with social media, visual storytelling, computer coding basics for primary school students, and a variety of programs that are used to support classroom learning. My strategy is simple, I take abstract concepts and create training programs that people can relate to.
Around the world (twice) Because of Socal Media
In 2008 I was marketing director for a travel agency specializing in cruise travel. On the leading edge of technology (again), I quickly saw the value of social media and carved out a niche for myself as an influencer in the travel industry. Because of my ability to tell a brand’s story via social media, I had the opportunity to travel around the world as a guest on the best cruise lines in the world.
Not one to sit around and wait for someone else to lead the pack,
I got interested in the evolution of education technology and got a part-time job at a school district. To be fair, I should mention that at the time, I had two kids in the school district and I had a strong desire to see how the school’s were going to roll out technology plans to support 21-st Century learning.
For the last three years, I have been running my digital media marketing agency while working at an elementary school as a media tech. Basically, I offer support to teachers and staff and I teach students about digital citizenship, coding, and how to make greenscreen and stop-motion videos. I have gained valuable insight into the mindset of the post-Millenial generation, which is going to help my business owner client’s that want to prepare for the next generation of employees in the years to come.
